Mission and Vision

Mission

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, One God. Amen.

Welcome to the official website of the Eastern Diocese of Canada (ODE)  of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

Here, you will find spiritual resources rooted in the ancient apostolic faith, teachings of the Church Fathers, updates on diocesan activities, youth and family ministry events, and guidance for living an Orthodox Christian life in today’s world. Whether you are a lifelong member of the Church or someone seeking to deepen your understanding, our goal is to draw all faithful souls closer to Christ through the richness of Ethiopian Orthodox tradition—preserved in prayer, fasting, liturgy, and love. As St. John Chrysostom continually reverbates: “If you wish to leave much wealth to your children, leave them instruction and the fear of God.”

May this website serve as a source of spiritual growth, unity, and encouragement for all.

Glory be to God forever. Amen.

  1. Preserving the Apostolic Faith To maintain the purity of the faith handed down from the Apostles and Church Fathers, defending Orthodox doctrine against the errors of the age, and teaching it boldly to the next generation. “Let us guard the faith which has come down from the fathers, unchanged and undefiled.” – St. Cyril of Alexandria
  2. Raising a Spiritually Strong Generation To disciple our youth, families, and communities in prayer, fasting, repentance, Scripture, and the liturgical life, forming a generation that is both spiritually mature and culturally rooted in Tewahedo identity.
  3.  Unity in the Body of Christ To strengthen the unity of the faithful congregants including, both clergy and laity, in love, humility, and obedience to the Church’s teachings, guided by the Holy Synod and the Patriarch, Abune Mathias I.
  4. Mission in the Diaspora To bear witness to the Gospel of Christ through holy living, good works, and evangelism, offering the rich spiritual treasure of the Orthodox Tewahedo faith to a searching world without compromise, but with compassion.
  5.  Strengthening Church Institutions To invest in theological education, Sunday School, youth fellowships, monasteries, and charitable institutions—ensuring that the Church thrives as both a spiritual sanctuary and a force for good in society.
  6.  Safeguarding Language, Liturgy, and Heritage To promote the use and teaching of Ge’ez, Amharic, and liturgical chants (Zema), and to preserve the icons, fasts, and rites that sanctify time and mark the distinct beauty of the Ethiopian Church.
